“Top Indian Companies Launch Government Internship Program to Create 1 Crore Jobs by 2029”
India’s top companies, such as Tata, Reliance, Birla, Adani, Infosys, Microsoft, and IBM, will participate in a new government-backed internship initiative designed to boost youth employment. This program, announced in the Union Budget 2024, targets creating 1 crore jobs across 500 leading private companies over the next five years.
Launching a dedicated portal on October 13, the government aims to streamline the application process. Starting October 3, companies will begin posting internship opportunities. These internships focus on bridging the skills gap and aligning education with industry needs.
Interns will receive a ₹5,000 stipend per month, co-funded by corporate CSR contributions and the government. Additionally, each intern will receive a ₹6,000 one-time payment from the government. The internships will be skill-based, steering clear of menial tasks, and are open across company supply chains and group companies.
The user-friendly portal will simplify the candidate application process. Interns can submit their skills and interests, and the platform will generate CVs and match them to suitable roles. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) are actively involved in this initiative, ensuring seamless collaboration between industries and interns.
“With industries facing a talent shortage, this scheme provides a critical bridge,” said Chandrajit Banerjee, Director-General of CII. The scheme is expected to transform India’s skilling and employment landscape, fostering innovation and progress by equipping the future workforce with the necessary skills.
